Postal Templates
The following requirements ensure
proper automated handling of your mail piece by the U.S.
Postal Service. Please be sure your mailing panel layout complies
with the following template
specifications.
If you are planning on having your cards mailed by a mail house
other than Custom Postcards
or Beard Printing and Publishing (BPP), we recommend that you contact
them to ensure that
these templates will not present any problems.
Custom Postcards/BPP takes every reasonable measure to insure that
your mailing conforms to
highly critical size and measurement specifications and whether
you are mailing through us, or
through your own mailing house, we will always scrutinize your layout
for accuracy.
While we assure you accuracy of mailing designs according to the
USPS regulations, it
unfortunately has been our experience that rare occasional misinterpretations
can exist
between various postal units that are beyond our control. Therefore
we cannot and do not
guarantee that other official units of the Post Office (other than
that of our local Lancaster PA
mail acceptance department will conform.

BLUE
ZONE – Address & Bar
Code Read Area (MLOCR)
The Post Office will scan this entire
area for recipient’s address and zip code. Placing a return
address, phone number, logos or any other non-address print in this
area, may confuse the MLOCR readers from interpreting the address
correctly. This can cause the Post Office to reject the mail piece
or cause them to return the piece back to you if the scanner reads
the return address first.
If necessary, an address can be placed in this area only on the
condition that it meets one of the following criteria:
•
Does not contain a state or zip code.
•
Is reversed out of a Solid Dark Color.
•
Remains above the first line of the recipients address block.
ORANGE ZONE
– Addressing Area
The only text allowed in the addressing area is the recipients mailing
address. Unless instructed otherwise, we will automatically comply
with these guidelines when designing your mail piece. If you are
designing your own mail piece, and we are mailing for you, this
guide must be strictly adhered to.
• Any colored background printed
in the addressing area should be less than 25% and of a pastel color,
to ensure the address printing meets reflectance requirements by
the USPS. |
